Importance of upper body management

Tonight we worked on the importance of controlling you upper body:

  • Not letting it collapse at the waist or become too folded
  • Not letting it open up too much or become too upright
  • Not letting it twist in the wrong direction
  • Not letting it over twist in the right direction

We should be using a relaxed, yet strong and controlled posture, using our core muscles in our stomach and back to stabilise our upper body against the rotational effects of our legs (separation). We need to do this because our centre of mass (tummy area) travels along a different line to that of our feet and legs which during turns cover more distance at greater speeds than our upper body, whilst we are controlling pressure through our legs by flexion and extension working against our upper-body down through our legs to the skis and from the skis through our legs while controlling rotation and maintaining flow from one turn to the next.
