Children’s Coach Of The Year 2017

ROGER CROMBLEHOLME

CHILDREN’S COACH OF THE YEAR 2017

Roger has worked for an extraordinary amount of years, introducing and promoting skiing to different young audiences.  He has been instrumental in establishing satellite clubs for various schools, to encourage participation and regularly gives of his free time to support our athletes at national race events.

Rogers undying patience and positive feedback ensures our young athletes continuously grow in confidence and self belief, which is paramount to success in our sport. This approach, together with his passion to see each child achieve their personal goals, results in a group of positive, motivated and ambitious athletes, enabling each child to reach their full potential  At the same time he challenges our racers, by utilising his extensive course setting knowledge, to test and enhance technical capability through slalom courses, refining techniques to ensure each child constantly improves in their tailored, continuous development programme. His keen eye for detail, enables him to work with each child on an individual basis, improving technique and ultimately, performance, based on the needs of each athlete.

Roger coaches our children during three sessions each week.  In addition, he gives up his time to deliver private coaching sessions, to help our athletes focus on specific areas or generally improve capability or self confidence.  Through video feedback, and clear explanations suitable for the age of each child,  he ensures each skier has visual and listening options to allow them to understand and improve.  Roger again gives of his free time, to attend a number of ski races during the summer months, undertaking course inspection, providing feedback and offering invaluable support during events.

To further grow the opportunities for our racers, Roger has been a key player, over the past two years, organising a race camp in Holland.  This has provided the opportunity for our children to transfer existing, adapt and learn new skills on an extremely long indoor slope.  This camp has been extremely successful and feedback from both parents and racers, from our and other clubs, has been unbelievably positive.  Through Rogers positive, forward thinking, dedication and commitment to the sport and to help each child do their best, we have a club that is successful, committed and supportive to each other.

Roger has committed a great part of his life, helping skiers and encouraging participation in our sport.  He is a fantastic coach who works tirelessly with our athletes to help them achieve their personal goals.  His success is certainly due to his extensive experience and qualifications, but in my view, is also due to his personality and natural ability to coach and empower children and young people of all ages.
